The fall is full of exciting events and gorgeous weather. It seems to be a perfect concoction of crisp air, friendly gatherings, and America’s favorite sport — football.
I’ve had the amazing opportunity to cover college and high school football for the past 4 years, and the 2018 season was the best one yet. Football offers a swath of moments of jubilee, anger, triumph, and defeat. Hundreds of thousands of people descend on stadiums across the country every weekend in the hopes that 11 other people on the field can fulfill the goal — winning it all.
Between the action, the fans, and the entire gamely experience, I look forward to each and every fall Friday and Saturday. Each game holds unexpected moments that constantly leave me in awe and seeming unbelief. I ask myself, “Why am I so invested in a game that is played with a piece of leather? What is so important about a game?”
I find myself returning to one thing: community. I’ve always felt at home on the sidelines with camera in hand. Getting to know so many photographers, videographers and media members the past four years has been an absolute joy, and I can always count on having a great time with those friends as we document the collective history of programs old and new. Not to mention, we have a front row seat to some of the most remarkable and astounding moments. Nothing seems to be more fun.
Here is a collection of my favorite images from the 2018 football season — from Friday night lights to primetime SEC football. I know the norm is to add only a handful of photos without repeats from the same game, but ya know, some games you just shoot better.
